MacBook blues

Yesterday, while sitting contentedly in class, my computer died. I later found out that it was the hard drive - it's toast. Done. Fried. Gone. When I tried to boot up my computer, a flashing question mark appeared, and the laptop didn't make any noise. Not a good sign. After running some more tests, it was clear that the drive had failed.

We have an external hard drive on which we back up both our laptops about once a month, but I hadn't backed up since July 30, so I lost everything since then. A lot of it is in email attachments, but all the work I did for school the last week or two is gone. Not a huge deal, really, but it's still aggravating that, after all the other problems I've had with this computer, now the hard drive is done and I have to buy a new one.

Word to the wise: buy an external hard drive (like this one) and back up your entire computer to it often.

A "funny" site

This stuff cracks me up: the "blog" of "unnecessary" quotation marks.

Shooter, watched

Remember when that movie Shooter was shooting here last summer? It came out over the winter and didn't exactly shoot up to the top of the box office rankings. Well, we decided to give it a shot and watched it on DVD tonight. After watching 1.5 hours of this 2 hour stinker, we wanted to shoot ourselves. There were some nice shots of Philly, but otherwise it was a mess, from the moment the hero shoots himself up with a homemade sugar solution (to heal his wounds, of course) to the time he stabs (not shoots) a nameless, faceless villain in the throat. We're gonna shoot this one back to Netflix tomorrow. Our next movie? Stop or My Mom Will Shoot.

Thankyouverymuch.

Football season

Football season is starting soon, though I can't say that I really care that much. I'll take baseball or hockey any day of the week. Football is so saturated with advertising that it's just tough to watch - it's hard to maintain interest or attention in the game when they stop every minute to pummel you with ads. People say baseball is slow, but there's way more downtime in football than in any baseball game - they spend an entire minute plotting a play, the play takes 7 seconds, everyone falls down, and then they go to commercial. Give me a break.

Potter

Michele and I both finished the last Harry Potter book tonight. Unlike some spendthrifts I know, we just bought one copy and traded it back and forth. Great book, that's all I will say.
