I was reading a friend's blog this morning, and I feel the need to help spread the word around to anyone who happens to stumble across my webpage. This crap really makes me angry.
Do you know there is a FENCE being built along parts of the southern border of the US? I'm sure you heard about it... but it is happening! You are probably thinking about all the illegal immigrants that will either stay out, or find some other way in. There's another side to this.... the fact that the Administration had to waive many environmental laws in order to get this wall built. It couldn't get done fast enough (if at all) if it had to pass through the legal system the LEGAL way. The Bush administration had to waive the whole thing, which is a huge mis-use of power, in my opinion. What are the migrating animals going to do when they encounter a wall on their journey? What effect do bulldozers and construction ACROSS 470 MILES have on the land and water??
Read this article.
The article says they are going to "assess the environmental impact of the fence construction even if it does not meet the strict requirements of the law.". Fact, it doesn't meet requirements of the law. Bush had said in one of his Immigration Reform speeches, "We're a nation of laws, and we must enforce our laws." But only some times and in certain circumstances, right?
