Beer Events

We went to BrewFest on Saturday.  It was fun, and I'll try to post some pics on here eventually.   In the meantime, here are some pictures of my parents at their bicycle pub crawl in Hamburg, NY.  Check out the bike their friends put together.  Pretty fun looking.  I want to participate next year! 

Spamalot

I am glad that I knew what to expect going into this one. Otherwise, I would have hated it! As it is, Spamalot finds a place near the bottom of my list of favorites. The audience was laughing like crazy, but I just couldn't understand why. Nah, I know why, they all like the movie. You gotta like the movie to like this musical. I found the humor simple (ex. fart noises), the words repetitive (ex. find the grail find the grail find the grail) and the music unimpressive. Now, there were some actual funny parts, and some cool set designs, but that can be said with any show. Sara Ramirez has a really good voice, but it's too bad she never gets to sing a whole song normally without overplaying it and stuff. David Hyde Pierce and Tim Curry were alright, but didn't add anything special, I didn't think. In conclusion, don't do like we did and wait almost 6 months to see it... it ain't worth it. There are many better shows on Broadway.

26 Years Old

My birthday was last Tuesday. I want to acknowledge and say thanks to everyone for their cards! And a special thanks to everyone who stopped out at Waikiki Wally's that night. It was a good time and I enjoyed it. Tiki cups and volcano bowls - fun bar no doubt about it. Drew, you did well picking that place.

Twelve Angry Men

Drew and I went to see Twelve Angry Men tonight. It's a play that takes place in a jury room. I won't go into the details here. The show was really good and entertaining. One of the guys in it was Tom Aldredge, who I recognized as the Narrator in Into the Woods. He didn't have TOO many lines, but when he talked I definitely recognized the voice.

Drew sat to my right, and some old guy sat on my left. His wife (who was also old) could not hear well. After many of the lines she would say to her husband, "what did he say?". Then he would repeat the line and she'd be like, "oh". It was annoying when the line spoken was in any way funny, because she would say "what'd he say?", he would reply and then she would laugh. Later in the show the old guy burped and it smelled really gross. I couldn't believe these people...

Halloween 2004

Halloween in NYC is awesome! So many people dress up and walk around the streets. Drew and I went to a fun party Saturday night at a bar in the East Village called Stingy Lulu's. Sunday was Halloween and the weather was perfect. There's a huge parade down 6th Avenue every year - and since we live right there, we got to deal with huge craziness. The parade was 3 hours, then everyone just spilled into the streets. It was hopeless for anyone trying to drive down around there. Check out my Halloween photo album!!

Shows

Just finished watching a movie called Donnie Darko. While watching it, I kept wondering how all the mysterious stuff was going to connect. So the finale arrives, and just like that, it's over. And I'm like, "what the heck, that doesn't even make sense". Drew didn't get it either. So he did some quick research to see if we really missed the point. Yeah, there really isn't a good answer for anything in that movie. Pretty disappointing.

On a better note, Drew and I saw NYU perform Sweeney Todd. Actors were good. I think Sweeney looked too young for his role, but that was the only fault I really found with it. I do think it matched the quality of Fredonia's production years back when they put it on. What a good, halloweenish, musical! I think they should revive that one and put it back on Broadway!

Woohoo, Yankees are NOT in the World Series! I am happy the Red Sox beat them. It's surprising how many people are anti-Yankee fans in Manhattan. Seems like most people are from other places, and cheer for their real home team. Interesting.
